About GageWater.com

GageWater.com is the first and only water monitoring platform that delivers SMS and email alerts based on custom river and water condition thresholds you set yourself. Fast, intuitive, and easy to use, it puts real-time river data right at your fingertips.

As an avid fly fisherman, I found myself constantly checking the USGS website and other river apps for water level updates, many of which were slow, unreliable, difficult to use, or overwhelmed you with too many notifications. As a web developer, I decided to build a better solution, one that not only provided cleaner, more accessible river data, but could also notify me automatically when conditions changed. Instead of constantly checking river levels, the river could notify me directly.

While developing the platform, it became clear that this service could benefit far more than just anglers. People living in flood-prone areas, boaters, kayakers, campers, and anyone who regularly depends on waterways across the United States can all benefit from real-time water condition monitoring and alerts.

That said, GageWater.com is intended as a convenience tool and should not be considered an official or guaranteed source for critical safety decisions. While we strive to provide accurate and timely information, users should always verify conditions through official government and emergency resources when necessary.

From the beginning, the goal was to provide a free, ad-free service for everyone. However, sending SMS and email notifications requires third-party infrastructure and regulatory compliance fees. Because of these ongoing costs, registered users who want advanced notification services may be required to subscribe to a paid plan. Even so, we remain committed to offering a free version of the platform with no advertising whenever possible.

The problem we're solving

Constantly checking the USGS website or other river apps for water level updates can be frustrating, especially when dealing with bugs, unreliable performance, or delayed real-time data. Many existing platforms also lack useful features such as trip tracking, recording previous high water marks, or saving important fishing locations: like the exact spot where you landed that trophy fish last season.

Our solution

A platform where you can bookmark your favorite water gages and receive email alerts, SMS notifications, or both whenever water levels change based on custom thresholds you set for any monitored gage. Keep a detailed log of your fishing trips, track and timestamp high water marks, and quickly revisit the exact locations where you caught memorable fish in previous seasons.
